The Copywriter and the Seven Deadly Sins

January 14th, 2009 by van7652

There are quite a few articles around on “The Seven Deadly Sins of Copywriting”. But if you look at them, you will see that not many of them seem to be about the REAL Seven Deadly Sins! These are Pride, Avarice, Lust, Envy, Gluttony, Anger, Sloth.

Why were these particular sins chosen centuries ago as the “deadly” sins? Because they were unforgivable! They are as unforgivable in copywriting as they are in any other sphere of life. But remember this - that as long as you avoid them in your copywriting, you can actually harness their power to help you sell your products!

· Pride. Who do you think YOU are? What makes you think the reader is interested in YOU? When I visit your site, I am interested in ME and MY needs. So nothing will put me off more quickly than you rambling on about yourself! Forget “I - I - I” in your copy and focus on “You -You -You”. You must convince your readers that you are interested in THEM and THEIR needs, if you want to keep them reading.

· Avarice. Don’t look greedy and as if you are only out for the money (even if you are …). The first rule of copywriting is to focus on the BENEFITS to the buyer of your product or service. Your aim is to make the reader so excited about the benefits that your price will seem like a bargain.

· Lust. Don’t appear desperate for the sale! Some of the most effective sales letters are those in which the writer seems indifferent and points out that he/she doesn’t need the paltry amount that is being asked for the product, but that YOU will be the loser if you don’t buy it.

· Envy. Don’t try to copy other people. You may have noticed someone else who is fantastically successful and think “If I write just like that, I’ll be just as successful.” Almost certainly not true. That person will have worked hard on developing his or her individual style. You need to develop your own individual style and personality to make your mark as a copywriter. (This doesn’t mean you can’t glean ideas from other people: of course you can. Just don’t copy them!)

· Gluttony. Don’t bite off more than you can chew. Making extravagant promises in order to gain a sale, and then finding you can’t deliver, will ruin your business reputation as nothing else can.

· Anger. A very deadly sin. DON’T badmouth competitors and DON’T use bad language. I recently received an extraordinary series of promotional e-mails from a self-styled Internet Guru (whose stock-in-trade was being rude to his readers), slamming a couple of fellow Internet marketers who he thought were competing unfairly. He used such bad language, including several 4-letter words, that I promptly removed myself from his list, as I am sure many others did.

· Sloth. Possibly the deadliest sin of all. Few things about sales copy are more of a turn-off than careless spelling, grammar and presentation. If you are too lazy to use the spellcheck, or to proofread your work, you will appear sloppy and Charm And Luck Handbags to your readers. Do you think that will help you sell whatever you are selling? I don’t think so. Especially if you are trying to sell your services as a copywriter! The same thing applies if your headlines and body copy are full of cliches and stock phrases because you are too lazy to think of anything original to say!

So - you are purer than pure. Your copywriting is free from all these deadly sins. The good news for you is that the rest of society is not! So you can make the seven deadly sins WORK for you to help you sell your product!

One of the most basic lessons in copywriting is that people buy things because they are driven by desires and emotions, not by logic. So you have to write your copy to tap into these desires and emotions. But where do these desires and emotions come from? From the seven deadly sins, of course!

Why do people buy Maserati cars or Cartier watches? Why do they buy dream homes, jewelry or other luxury items? Not because they need them. Basically because of Envy and Pride! They envy those who already have them, or they want everyone else to envy THEM. One of the best selling books of all time was The Lazy Man’s Way to Riches. Why? Because it appealed to people’s Avarice and Sloth at the same time. Lust ensures that you can’t go far wrong with a dating site or products designed to help people attract the opposite sex.

And we all know about the problems Gluttony has created in our society. Obesity is a ticking health time-bomb, and there is an insatiable market for weight-loss products. But what is the most sure-fire way to sell one of these products? By convincing people that it will enable them to lose weight while still eating as much as they want!

Yes, it’s highly regrettable. But the fact is that to make your copy work, you have to appeal to people’s basic desires. So always keep those seven deadly sins in mind. Just make sure you avoid them yourself!

The Significance of Performance Reviews

January 1st, 2009 by van7652

Performance reviews can prove valuable to an individual’s career development. If a company conducts reviews properly, Blue Ridge China Dinnerware employee should receive pertinent feedback from peers and managers and, if applicable, clients. Be sure to check your company’s review schedule - reviews may take place on an annual, semi-annual or even quarterly basis.

The review usually consists of two components: the written or electronic review, and the oral review or review meeting.

The written or electronic review should be divided into several sections: goals achieved by the employee, future goals, the employee’s strengths and weaknesses, and helpful recommendations for the employee’s future growth.

The review process may include information on promotions, bonuses, career transfers, or an increase in job responsibilities. This will depend on factors such as the formality of the review, its intended purpose, and the frequency with which reviews are conducted. Many organizations combine performance reviews with promotions and bonuses. Some companies, however, are more concerned with providing feedback to the employee than they are with compensation and advancement issues.

The review meeting can either be an asset or hindrance to the individual, depending on how effective the manager is at giving the appropriate information and feedback. It is important for the manager performing the review to show the employee that time and effort was put into the review process. Employees should be made to feel that they are an integral part of the organization in order to encourage them to address their weaknesses, work on further strengthening positive areas, and achieve future goals.

If your reviews take place on an annual basis, you must inquire about future promotions, increases in job responsibilities, and any desires for transfers or new projects. Do not rush your review - regard it as a very important time to receive formal feedback and discuss your future career path. Ask questions, and offer ideas to improve the work of your group or the company in general. Hopefully, your ideas will be appreciated, recorded and acted upon. You may also want to follow up on these ideas and suggestions at a later date.

Unfortunately, some reviews may raise internal political issues or power struggles. Some managers are insecure, intimidated by their employees’ performance, or just lacking in interpersonal skills. We’ve all come across someone who is not looking out for the best interests of the employee and the firm. To work around this dilemma, request that your mentor or another manager be present at your review and active during the entire review process.

Ask for a copy of the written review so you can gauge your progress and remind yourself of your future goals. Do not sign any review unless you are totally in agreement with the information accumulated from the review process. Also, make sure that your goals are achievable - otherwise at your next review your manager will want to know why you didn’t meet expectations. That puts you in an unfortunate position.

Performance reviews should be beneficial to you. Be prepared and be positive!

December 4th, 2008 by van7652

You’re going through you mail one day and you Dog Collar Clips Swarovski across an invitation to Swarovski Rhinestone Transfers baby shower. Inside is a gift registry card and you go to Outlet Swarovski computer to look at the expectant mother’s wish list. There are tons Coach Patchwork Knock Off gifts to Huge Lot Of Nutrisystem Advanced Meal Planner Lot 3 from, but which choice is right for you? My rule of thumb; her needs are more important than her wants.

Gifts on a baby registry usually include clothes, feeding supplies, baby safety items, nursery furniture and decor, etc. The people closest to the mother-to-be usually take care of the expensive stuff like furniture. So focusing on the small necessities, like clothing, is a good place to start. Not only are clothes a must-have, but they are inexpensive, too. You don’t have to buy a Apothecary Conversion To Metric outfit (and yes, some tiny baby clothes do cost that much). You have cheaper options such as, onesies, tee-shirts and baby socks. And if you do decide to buy a complete outfit, go for popular department stores like Target and Wal-Mart. You are sure to find nice and inexpensive options there.

The mom will also need feeding supplies, and this is another area where the inexpensive, yet vital must-have items are plentiful. What’s The Difference Between DS3 And T3 Bandwidth?

December 2nd, 2008 by van7652

Don’t be confused about the difference between DS3 and T3 circuits. These terms are really synonymous. Instead you should focus on what they can do for you…and the best scenarios for application.

Digital Signal (DS) is a system of classifying digital circuits according to the rate and format of the signal (DS) and the equipment providing the signals (T). DS and T designations have come to be used synonymously so that DS1 implies T1, and DS3 implies T3.

A DS3 line (also known as a T-3) is an ultra high-speed connection capable of transmitting data at rates up to 45 Mbps. A DS3 line is equal to approximately 672 regular voice-grade telephone lines, which is fast enough to transmit full-motion, real-time video, and very large databases over a busy network. A DS3 line is typically installed as a major networking artery for large corporations and universities with high-volume network traffic. Other example applications include large call centers, enterprise wide Rongstadgrayce and IP PBX systems, Internet service providers, research labs, video conference centers and software development companies. A DS3 is the second fastest, non optical connection offered in North America. A DS3 line is comprised of 28 T1 lines, each operating at total signaling rate of 1.544 Mbps.

DS3 circuits provide businesses and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) with up to 45 Mb/s of dedicated Internet connectivity. This is an ideal solution for users who have outgrown their T1 connections and are in search of unlimited, high-capacity access. A DS3 line actually consists of 672 individual channels, each of which supports 64 Kb/s. DS3 lines are extremely high bandwidth connections into a carrier’s backbone. They typically include SLAs (Service Level Agreements) that guarantee uptime and performance.

The DS3 signal itself is composed of 28 DS1 signals and is constructed using a two-step multiplexing process. First, the 28 DS1 signals are multiplexed into seven DS2 signals. Second, the seven DS2 signals are multiplexed into one DS3 signal. Each multiplexing step uses bit stuffing to handle the different input frequencies. Overhead bits provide alignment, error checking, in-band communications, and bit stuffing control information.

Line rate: 44,736,000 b/s

Signals: 7 DS2 signals = 28 DS1 signals

Overhead bits:

56 bits total/frame

F-bits (framing) 28 bits/

M-bits (multiframing) 3 bits/

C-bits (stuffing) 21 bits

X-bits (message) 2 bits/

P-bits (parity) 2 bits/

Data bits between overhead bits 84

A DS3 connection is comprised up of two monthly charges: the local loop and the port charge. The local loop charge is the cost of the circuit provided by the Local Exchange Carrier (LEC) that allows DS3 access into the carrier’s network. The loop charge is based on the distance from the customer’s location to the edge of the carrier’s network; the farther the customer is from the network, the more the loop will cost. Nearly every carrier prices loops differently so it is in your best interest to price DS3 service with several providers to ensure that you get the best deal.

DS Internet Access is the ideal solution for businesses that require high-bandwidth access at a reduced price. Whether you host high-traffic Web sites, support Web hosting or need high-capacity bandwidth on an as-needed basis, there’s a level of DS3 service (Full or fractional) that will meet your needs. Fractional to full DS3 or T3 circuits run from speeds of 3 Mbps up to 45 Mbps.

For customers that require more bandwidth than a T1 line can provide but do not yet require the capacity of a full DS3 line, a fractional DS3 connection is the ideal solution. A fractional DS3 is similar to a full DS(T)3, only with some of the channels turned off. This reduces the total monthly cost and provides additional capacity that can be turned up in a matter of days. Unfortunately, the DS3 (T) loop is still required for this service.

If a full DS3 line is more bandwidth that you really need, it is also possible to get Fractional DS3, which gives you a portion of full DS3 bandwidth at a lower cost. Of course, DS3 is also available in multiples to increase bandwidth, similar to bonded T1 service.

DS3 service can be deployed for a wide verity of applications. The most common uses are DS3 point-to-point, DS3 internet, DS3 frame relay, DS3 voice and DS3 VPN. The pricing for these connections varies widely depending on the carrier, location of service and the application for which the connection is being used. Visit DS3 Bandwidth to obtain current “real time” rate quotes for your location.

Create An Interesting Design For Your Quilt with Simple Shapes

November 30th, 2008 by van7652

Quilts and quilt designs are created when the quilt maker combines blocks.

A block is the basic unit Chanel Inspired Handbags a quilt top. Typically blocks are square. They can be made any size, and frequently a quilt is made using many blocks with the same design. They can be pieced together from smaller pieces (called patches) or could be appliqué. It is also possible that a block could be a solid piece of fabric.

The smaller components of a block are called patches. They can be many different shapes - triangles, Scrapbook Quotes And Sayings squares, diamonds, or curves - but the idea is to sew patches together so you end up with a square.

By changing the shapes of the patches Swarovski Collectors Club Member Scs Paperweight Boxed a block Nutrisystems Nourish Foods substituting triangles for squares) and/or changing the placement of the colors of the pieces (i.e., you can create a new design for your quilt, yet the sewing won’t change.

Simple is the name of the game for many quilters. Using one or two shapes for all of the pieces in your quilt makes it easy to sew; and easy-to-sew squares and triangles offer many advantages in terms of simplicity. As a beginner quilter, making the sewing simple gives you the opportunity to focus on learning and practicing basic quilt making techniques that you will use as you develop your craft.

Interesting variations in quilt blocks can be achieved Nutrisystem Biglot placement of the fabrics in addition to how each patch is divided.

A simple nine patch quilt block can be used as an example of how different a block can look just by changing the placement of colors within the nine patches of one block.

Using only two colors of fabric in alternating squares creates a design Apothecary Cabinet Virginia a checkerboard. With the same nine patch of two colors of fabric, using only square patches in each block, you can create a pattern that looks like a big X in your quilt simply by placing the colors in a particular position in each block. Vera Bradley Duffel Knock Offs the Irish Chain, and variations of it.

Getting a little more complex, you can take Savorski of the square patches in the blocks and divide them in half from corner to corner (commonly called half-square triangles in the quilting world), and create a star design.

Using only half-square triangles and square patches, by simply re-arranging the Suzie Lee Collection Wholesale your checkerboard or square turns into a basket, or leaf shape, a bow tie shape, or even a series of diamonds.

Another type of triangle that is easy to make is a quarter-square triangle. That triangle is made by cutting a square patch into half-square triangles, and then cutting the half-square triangles in half once more, thus creating four small isosceles triangles.

You can add complexity to your design by increasing the number of colors in your quilt, and your design changes once again. What once was a black and white checkerboard can transform into a block that looks like the letter H.

Your block can look like it is 3-dimensional by using specific colors in designated places.

And all of those design changes can be created by using only three basic shapes - squares, half-square triangles and quarter-square triangles - plus a little imagination in the placement of your colors.

As you sew your blocks together, they can look completely different. For example, you could take blocks of two simple half-square triangles, place them in columns, alternate the direction of the cut of the triangle, and create a quilt that looks like columns of zigzags. Using the same blocks, placing them so all of the diagonals are facing the same direction, your quilt could look like an old-fashioned scrap quilt.

November 24th, 2008 by van7652

Here are some tips to choosing leather wristbands or leather bracelets that will fit your style:

For the most masculine look for men: Choose a wide leather band, about 2 & 3/4 inches wide. If you want to go for a harder, more masculine look, matching wide leather bands are good at 2 & 3/4 inch wide. For bands this wide, look for plain bands or bands with 2-3 straps across the front. If you are going for the most masculine look, the color black band is best, otherwise, the brown is a little more tame.

For a casual look for men: Choose a band that is about 1 & 1/2 - 2 1/4 inches wide. What is popular now for both men and women is a lot of texture on the band, weaving and stitching is good. You want to draw attention to the band, you want it to really stand out and add to your look. For casual wear, choose a brown band. If you want be a little more bold, go for black.

For a casual look for women: Choose a band that is about 1/2 inches wide. A stringy or wraparound plain leather band is good, for a more subtle look, choose the color brown. If you want to be a little more bold, go for black.

For a bolder look for women: Choose a band that is about 1 inch to 1 & 1/2 inches wide. Once again, brown is going to be a little less bold than black. Here again, weaving and stiching is popular and the more texture on your band the better.

Popular styles that stand out:
